In what ways do we defend ourselves, our families, our lands, our liberties, and our religion today?
Moroni leads the Nephites to battle against the Lamanites in defense of themselves, their families, their lands, their liberties, and their religion. The Nephites slay many of the Lamanites and Moroni says they will stop if the Lamanites make a covenant of peace, the Lamanites resist but eventually agree. Alma prophesies that 400 years after the coming of Christ the Nephites will dwindle in unbelief.
“Nevertheless, the Nephites were inspired by a better cause, for they were not fighting for monarchy nor power but they were fighting for their homes and their liberties, their wives and their children, and their all, yea, for their rites of worship and their church.”
Rachael D: Alma 44: 15, 20, The Lamanites make a covenant that they will never come to war again against the Nephites and they let them depart peacefully during a war. It stood out to me how much they trusted the word of their enemy. They made a verbal covenant and they lived by it. It makes me ponder about if I do what I say, how much can my word be trusted.
