Study Question: When has the Lord strengthened you after mighty prayer to do things that otherwise are impossible?
Summary: Amlici seeks to be king. Democracy wins but his followers make him king and the Amlicites want to take over. The Nephites, led by Alma, defend themselves and win by the strength of the Lord. The Amlicites join the Lamanites and both attack together. Again, strengthened by the Lord, Nephites triumph. The church grows but then becomes prideful and wicked. The poor suffer. Alma leaves the judgement seat and goes to preach the word.
Scripture: Alma 2:28
Nevertheless, the Nephites being strengthened by the hand of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him that he would deliver them out of the hands of their enemies, therefore the Lord did hear their cries, and did strengthen them, and the Lamanites and the Amlicites did fall before them.
Rachael D: In chapter 2, the Nephites humble themselves during a time of wars and pray for deliverance. Their prayer is answered and they are able to defeat the Amlicites and Lamanites. During time of peace thousands get baptised and they are blessed spiritually and temporarily. By the end of chapter 4 they have become prideful in their hearts and there is contention. Alma becomes a fulltime missionary and bears pure testimony to help them remember their covenants and all the Lord has done for them. The pride cycle is so clear in these chapters.
