Study Question: Why do you think knowledge about the Atonement is essential?
Summary: Jacob warned the Nephites concerning great wickedness prevalent among them: pride, the improper use of wealth, and violations of the law of chastity. After warning of these sins, Jacob pled with his people to “be reconciled unto [the Father] through the atonement of Christ, his Only Begotten Son.
Daily Scripture: Jacob 4:10 “Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works.”
Rachael D: In chapter 4, Jacob asks why not attain a perfect knowledge of Christ and the atonement. This is a really good question to ponder on. He teaches it is through the atonement that we are reconciled and obtain a resurrection.
My favourite verse in these chapters is Jacob 2:8, where he says the word of God heals the wounded soul. One blessing we can receive by studying the scriptures (this challenge) is our soul can be healed.
