Study Question: Do you have an experience where you have followed a similar process as Nephi to find out if what the prophets say are true?
Summary: Nephi and brothers go back for wives. Brothers get angry at Nephi. They bind him, though Nephi prays for strength to break the bands. They repent. Lehi sees tree of life, iron rod leading to the tree and multitudes pressing forward or getting lost. Nephi wants to know for himself.
Scripture: 1 Nephi 10:17 And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God–and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come–I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men.
Rachel D: Chapter 7 shows another journey where Nephi shows his faith to see miracles and Laman and Lemuel have a change of heart. Just like the other journeys they always give thanks and offer a sacrifice.
Chapter 8 and 10 are accounts of Lehi’s visions which reminds us how we have to hold on to the scriptures and when we partake of the fruit/atonement to continue and not fall away. I love how the tree of life is followed by a vision of the life and purpose of Jesus Christ.
In Chapter 9 and 10, Nephi reminds us on how important the scriptures are and reminds us that Heavenly Father knows all things and if we diligently seek, then will find the mysteries of God just like his father.
