Study question: Can you share a time when you have done something you thought was almost impossible but only succeeded through faith in Jesus Christ?

Summary: Nephi needs to build ship. Angry brothers mock, but Nephi keeps faithful and shocks them with spirit power. They finish the ship. On voyage, the brothers party, forgetting God. Nephi cries repentance and they bind him. Storm threatens destruction so they release Nephi, who prays and restores calm. They finally arrive.

Scripture: 1 Nephi 17:51 And now, if the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he cannot instruct me, that I should build a ship?

Eszter K: The ‘raw-meat-eating’ bit made me think of the times the Lord has “made our food sweet” so we would remain healthy. Once I cooked dinner with my friend for friends and missionaries ans bought a lot of chicken, and one half of it smelled a bit, but it was still within its assigned expirition date, so I cooked it.. well, I’m not a Helper, but I had never burned chicken before, but somehow within minutes I burned all of that portion that smelled. We were really, really surprised with my friend, because we did not neglect the food or put the oven on too high, yet it was burnt. Then we both knew it was the Lord making sure we were not going to eat from that chicken.

Yiksee L: The Lord works in mysterious ways… Like when the handcart company had to eat the leather from their carts as food and God taught them how to prepare it so that it was edible. I think there was a story like that anyway.

Rachael D: I like 1 Nephi 17:3, when we are obedient we are given the strength to continue. These chapters show that when we are doing the will of God he will be there supporting us. Heavenly Father is powerful, we want to be on the same side
