1 Nephi 11-14

Study Question: What can we learn about personal and prophetic revelation from Nephi’s example of seeking confirmation of the truth his father’s vision and then looking and beholding according to the direction of the Spirit?

Summary: Nephi asks to see the vision his father saw. He sees the tree of life, Christ’s mortal ministry in the Holy Land, and the destruction of his people. He also sees the promulgation of The Bible and the coming forth of The Book of Mormon in the latter days.

Scripture:  1 Nephi 13:37 And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost, and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be.

Torsten KI learned that we have the gospel with ‘plain and precious things’. It reminds me of how easy the gospel is, it is the gospel for all people.
Sometimes we do not see the wood for the trees. We focus ourself on one little detail, but forget the overall picture and the basic principle as ‘why we are doing it’.
There are only a few basic principles on which the lord founds his church and plan of salvation.
Therefore, whenever I see something new I try to connect it with the basic principle of the lord. This makes it easier to understand it and finally getting the affirmation of the spirit.

Rachel D: Nephi desired to know what his father saw, he believed that he could receive an answer and then he sat pondering. We can follow this example when we study the scriptures or go to church. We need to understand our desires/questions and believe we can have answers. We can then find a place to ponder and be taught by the spirit. We can then look and behold and just like Nephi we can converse with the spirit until we have received the whole answer, step by step, question by question.

Yiksee L: I love that in 1nephi 12:3-6, he sees the climax of the book of Mormon here at the beginning of the book of Mormon. This book is so neat.. It’s like he’s giving us a taster of what is to come, as we watch this prophecy unfold in the actual book. Amazing
