27 THINGS I GUESS I KNOW // No 3: FEELINGS ARE MORE LUCRATIVE THAN FACTS

I love the comfort of black and white answers. I do. It’s just easier to be able to tailor my decisions and actions around inalienable truth. I’m a little nervous that that sentiment makes me some kind of advocate for the science of mathematics, so before we get too carried away, I’ll get to my point. I’ve learned that actually, ultimately, there’s more confidence to be found in the affairs of the heart. Call it intuition, call it the “hunch”, call it the spirit, a haunting, an impulse even. These moments when something bigger takes over and somehow we are being communicated with by some other force. Feelings are more lucrative a currency in human relationships. Probably because we are all so different, but also because individually, we’re constantly seeking to be successful communicators. That, and the fact that on some level we each love to feel singled out and special. The most impactful moments in my relationships with other people happen when one of us concerns ourselves with the feelings of the other, rather than the nitty gritty A, B, C’s.
